# Public chat limits

> Question limits, visitor identification, and cost management

Public chats have question limits you can adjust per bot under Chat usage limits in the bot's settings. Dashboard tests use separate limits.

| Scope | Per minute | Per hour | Per 24 hours |
| - | -: | -: | -: |
| Per visitor | 5 | 30 | 100 |
| Per IP address | 120 | 1,200 | Not configured |
| Entire bot | 300 | 3,000 | 10,000 |

These are the default values. IP limits apply to the combined usage of visitors sharing a connection, such as an office network. Visitor identifiers are stored in the browser and persist after reloading. Clearing browser storage causes the browser to be treated as a new visitor.

Cloudflare Turnstile checks the initial visitor session. Usually no additional action is required; a challenge appears only when needed. The service also checks allowed sites and signed tokens, but these measures do not guarantee complete protection against public widget abuse.

**Genkeychat's limits alone cannot guarantee a cap on Anthropic charges.** Set usage or spending limits with Anthropic too.
